Customer beware! We had to pay to have my wife's car towed from Glenwood because they were going to charge $1,600 for work Meidl Honda did for $600! My wife's vehicle had an obvious engine related problem and was leaking fluid so having gone to this mechanic before she took her car there. The mechanic from Glenwood looked at the car and offered to fix the issue we brought the car in for at a cost of just over $1,600. Before agreeing to let them do the work she called me and asked if I had any concerns because neither of us expected anything this expensive. Feeling something was off based on my wife's description that a hose needed to be replaced I called and asked for more detail on what needed to be done. I spoke with her mechanic and was told the power steering hose broke and needed to be replaced, there was oil everywhere and needed to be cleaned up, and he recommended replacing two belts since they were dirty. When stepping through his costs for labour and parts his numbers didn't seem to add up to me and I couldn't reason through how replacing a power steering hose, an air conditioning belt, and water pump belt could possibly cost $1,600. Doing 5 minutes of research on google the power steering hose replacement is a $250 fix (probably in the US) furthering my concerns. Not being an expert I called Meidl Honda (wife's car is a Honda Pilot) and asked what the cost to do this work would be and was told $600. I proceeded to call Glenwood and tell them we had an alternative suggesting they double check they haven't made any mistakes in their quote. They did offer us a $100 discount, but my wife and I decided to call a tow truck to move our car from Glenwood to Meidl, pay Glenwood $160 for their time, and never return. I urge caution for anyone considering taking their vehicle to Glenwood Auto.
Dan, thank you for leaving a review on my business. I reviewed your wife's invoice, and am obviously very upset with the one star review you left for my business. Unfortunately we did not quote you on the bare minimum repair that Meidle Honda performed on your vehicle. We did add some recommendations that were included with the main estimate. The first was replacement of the two belts because they were saturated with power steering fluid (not dirty as you stated in your review). There is a chance due to the oil saturation that these belts would squeal in the future and cause annoyance, and the second was changing the power steering fluid to synthetic cold weather fluid. Synthetic severe cold weather fluid is expensive and worth the price as the less expensive thicker fluid does cause pressure buildups in the system, and can cause leaks in cold weather for other components in the future. I am sorry that we were not more clear that these were options on the quote, and you were obviously under the impression that this all had to be done to repair your problem. The power steering pressure hose we would have installed has a higher pressure rating than the Honda hose installed at Meidle and comes with a 3 year warranty on both parts and labour as opposed to the one year warranty provided by Honda, our hose is more expensive as a result. Our total also included the time to diagnose the problem. On Monday morning, I will go over this with my Service Advisors, and Estimating team, and we will use it as a learning experience to better serve our clients. Again my sincerest appologies for the miscommunication. Robert Scott Glenwood Auto Service
