I brought my vehicle(subaru crosstrek 2024) in for diagnosis of a rattling noise that occurred during light acceleration around 1100-1500 RPM. The shop test drove the car and was able to replicate the sound, however I was told it was something from the exhaust system and “not concerning” and no repair was performed. I was charged $220 for 1 hour of labour. I later took the vehicle to another shop with a lower labour rate ($160/h), where they identified the issue as a failing tensioner pulley. The repair took 0.6 hours of labour and completely resolved the noise. Service was professional, but I was disappointed with the diagnosis and steep diagnostic cost considering the issue ended up having a clear fix somewhere else
Dear Andrew, we apologize for the disappointment you experienced. Your feedback is important to us, and we will use it to improve our diagnostic process. Thank you for bringing this to our attention.
